More About Sarah Beeny, Including Fun Facts

I’ve been a big fan of Sarah Beeny for many years. I remember how captivated I was when Property Ladder used to appear on TV.

I don’t quite remember exactly when, but I’m sure she was one of many inspirations for getting into the property game. The prospect of investing in property just seemed fun… and profitable. How many of you got suckered in the same way?

Full name

Sarah Lucinda Beeny

D.O.B

Sarah Beeny was born on 9th January 1972.

Family life

  • Sarah is married to an artist, Graham Swift. They met when she was 18.
    Sarah Beeny Family
  • She has four sons, Rafferty, Charlie, Laurie and Billy. In between her first two children, Sarah unfortunately suffered a miscarriage.
  • Sadly, Beeny was 10 years old when her mother died of cancer.
  • Sarah grew up on a farm in Berkshire, in the countryside between Reading and Basingstoke

Sarah Beeny’s House

Sarah has a home in South West London and another in Yorkshire.

Unusual family setup

She’s very close with her brother, which is a good thing, because they both married into the same family. Her husband’s sister is her brother’s wife, which sounds rather biblical, but is actually perfectly legal. They were all teenage sweethearts, too: Beeny met her husband, Graham Swift, an artist, at the age of 19.

Property TV Presenter

Sarah is best known for presenting property shows on Channel 4, such as ‘Property Ladder’

Property Development company

Sarah set-up her own property development company when she was 24 with her brother and boyfriend.

Speaking of which, here’s a collection of property development tips from the Bean herself.

Property Ladder

Sarah landed her role on Property Ladder by randomly talking to someone at a party. The following day her sister-in-law rang Sarah asking her if she wanted to be the front face for a new series. The rest as they say is history.

The early days

Before moving into property, Beeny tried her hand at various jobs including working for Save the Children, having a window-cleaning business, and selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door. Sarah’s first job was selling ice-cream. Who woulda’ thought?

Family influence

Sarah’s father was an architect so she had been on building sites all her life, that’s where she built her foundation of knowledge regarding properties.

Sarah the author

Sarah has written two best-selling books, both on the subject of developing property for profit.

Britain’s Best homes

In 2003, Sarah co-hosted Britain’s Best Homes for Channel 4.

Sarah’s dating site

Sarah recently launched a dating site: mysinglefriend.com (I know, how randomly odd). She came up with the idea when trying introduce a friend of hers to the brother of someone at work. Sarah started her internet dating service with a pal two years ago after spending most of her life match-making friends. They both mortgaged their houses to begin the site.

Sarah’s breasts

Anyone with at least 1/20 vision must have got an eyeful of Sarah’s… errr… “assets”

Depending on how you look at it, she’s either fortunately or unfortunately, formed quite a [seedy] fan base because of them.

Sarah grew up wanting a boob REDUCTION (nooo, say it ain’t so!). She was the first at school to get boobs and wear a bra. She was incredibly self-conscious and asked her father for a reduction. He told her to wait until she was 21 and, if I she wanted it, she could do it. It wasn’t until she met Graham that he encouraged her to wear T-shirts and tighter-fitting tops.

Dislikes

Sarah hates goats-cheese

If Sarah could…

If Sarah could be anyone anyone else, she would be Darcy Bussell, the ballet dancer

Back in time…

If Sarah could go back in time, she would never have stopped playing the piano

I am totally obsessed too. I maintain (sort of) a blog of facts about Sarah, so you can find out all you would like to know from there. I've not updated it for several months though. Enjoy and keep writing articles about her! She's great. Does a lot of work for charity.

Hey Sidbeen,

Firstly, thanks for the response. And secondly, I'm not "totally obsessed"....just yet :)

It's funny, while I was doing my research I actually landed on your blog and read it for facts about Sarah Beeny. Small world, this Internet place, aye?

And don't worry, I doubt this will be the last Sarah Beeny blog!!!

Hey Debbie,
I've also always wondered that myself actually. I don't actually know, but I did raise the question in our forum, and there is a lot of speculation.

I love Sarah Beeny on her show especially when she tells the smart arses how to do it properly. I always wondered how many kids she had as she always seems pregnant. I was so sorry to hear that she lost one. Keep going Sarah you are brilliant and have inspired me to do a lot of changes in my home.

Not wishing to nit-pick, but the ballerina you mention is 'Darcy Bussell' not 'Brussell'. Cheers, Val

Does anyone know what Sarah's property developing company is called?! I know she has two, but I've always wanted to know what they are called, perhaps so I could use them myself.
Thanks...
